who are Liquid Swords?

About Us

Our team is made up of experts in their respective fields. Many of us are veterans, others are fresh faces.

A group of us grew up here while others flew in from all around the world.

We love games, stories, popcorn, sneakers, tea, plants – you get it.

About Liquid Swords

  • Founded in 2020, Liquid Swords is a video game studio created by industry veteran and outspoken Twitter user Christofer Sundberg. Christofer is renowned as the founder of Avalanche Studios and the brains behind the Just Cause game series.

  • We love video games, and we’re inspired by the origins of game development. We’re building a studio that is creativity-led, free from unnecessary distractions, and solely focused on developing the very best games.

  • We aim to grow to 100, our optimal number for zero-nonsense game development. We hope to reach this number by early 2024.

  • We’re working on our first game; a narrative-driven, open-world, hardboiled AAA revenge story, built and developed in Unreal Engine 5.

Working at Liquid Swords

  • We’re located in Sickla, Stockholm – less than fifteen minutes by public transport from Slussen, one of the city’s main transport hubs. The office is accessible by bus or tram and, like the whole of Stockholm, the location is extremely cycle-friendly. Our newly-renovated bespoke office sits in the heart of contemporary Sickla, with shops, bars, and restaurants.

Our office was created to be a space that encourages focused work, meaningful collaboration, and plenty of space to unwind and have fun.

  • Our team of expert talent comes from across the industry, including Avalanche Studios, CD Projekt Red, DICE, Gearbox, Mojang Studios, Paradox Interactive, Rockstar Games, Starbreeze Studios, SquareEnix, and Ubisoft. We’re fully committed to equal opportunities regardless of age, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, belief, ethnicity, marital status, or any other protected characteristics.

  • No crunch. Let’s say that again: no crunch!

We’ve gotten rid of meetings that could have been emails and created a studio where we empower and trust our teams to be true experts in their disciplines without compromising on quality. We always work collaboratively – no silos and our organizational structure is flat.

AW (After Work drinks) are an essential part of the Swedish working culture, on par with strong coffee and a drawer full of abandoned lunch boxes (matlådor). We host regular After Work hang-outs for our entire studio, with plenty of drinks and snacks. Our swords also organize their own activities during and after work hours, such as climbing, board game nights, and movie screenings. We make sure that our game library is stocked with classics and updated with the latest releases.

  • Those who join within the next year will play a key role in the development of our first game. In practice, this means a high-degree of autonomy to contribute toward the full lifecycle of our first project.

  • At this stage of development, we believe it’s important to be in the same physical space to facilitate easy and natural collaboration. Our primary workplace is our office; however, we understand that some tasks and time are better spent working remotely, and our general rule is four days working remotely each month. We also know that life is never straightforward and we offer flexible working with core hours from 10.00 to 15.00.

  • Yes, you can work on your own game on your own time! We don’t want to stifle anyone’s creativity, quite the opposite. All we ask is that it doesn’t take time away from your day-to-day tasks at Liquid Swords and that you let us playtest your game!

Careers at Liquid Swords

  • You can find all of our open positions on our Careers page. When we look at potential candidates, we’re looking for people who share our vision of game development without any nonsense.

  • Yes. For those joining us from outside Sweden, we offer a relocation allowance and provide services in collaboration with Nordic Relocation Group.

  • Yes. If you’re offered a position at the studio, and you live outside of the European Union, we’ll sponsor your work permit.

  • The right now is important, but it’s never too early to plan for the future. Our pension plan includes an occupational pension based on your salary that Liquid Swords adds to your basic public pension. We work with Söderberg & Partners to allocate each employee's pension investments, and you are given the opportunity to sit down with them if you want to be involved in this process.

  • At Liquid Swords, we top up your child allowance to 100% during the first six months of your leave to encourage equal parenting and to make it easier to focus on your family.

The Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) provides a basic child allowance to both parents. You have a right to full parental leave until the child is 18 months old and then part-time leave until they turn 8.

  • We encourage everyone to keep growing within their chosen field or step out of their comfort zone and discover a new discipline. We’ll pay for classes and training that count towards your personal development. If there is a relevant conference, like GDC or the Game Awards, we make sure that you can attend and get any additional learning material that you need and can share with the rest of the studio. Knowledge is power!

  • We want mental and physical health to be a priority. Studio members receive ten free calls with Mindler, an app that connects people to psychologists through an app.

Each year, we offer a 5000 SEK annual wellness allowance. This covers activities from gym membership to meditation apps to horseback riding. We also partner with SATS and Friskis & Svettis, two of Stockholm’s leading fitness providers, for discounts and benefits. Find what works for you!
