Learning New Gaming Skills

Video games is a medium that is constantly evolving, which allows us to grow in tandem! Click the link to read more about our new skills, and share your own in the comments!

Knowledge is power!

We've looked at the habits we want to break, so let's flip the coin and find new things we want to learn! But we don't just want you to pick up something new this year; we're encouraging everyone to try something new. It's time to move out of our comfort zones! But only metaphorically, you can keep your favorite spot on the couch. We're not monsters!

Use this year as an opportunity to expand your horizons. The upcoming months will see the release of many exciting new titles, both AAA and indie, across all genres and platforms. There's something for everyone! Take a look at your game collection and figure out what genres are missing. Never tried an FPS? No problem, Doom: The Dark Ages is coming out soon! Perhaps strategy games seem daunting? Let Civilization VII change your mind! And if you still haven't played a Hideo Kojima game, Death Stranding 2 is out this year, so you still have time to play the first one! It's a great year for new games and new experiences!

It's time to finally tackle that level you could never finish, the boss that was too hard to beat, and the absolutely impossible puzzle. Sometimes, all you need is to come back with fresh eyes, and other times, you need to work up your skills. Practice is the keyword here, but you might also need a helping hand. Ask a friend to help walk you through it, or take turns playing to learn from each other. You can always look online for Let's Play videos that can teach you what you need to jump over that hurdle that's been waiting for you!

We love replaying our favorites, and one of the best things about games is that you can get a brand new experience even if it's the 20th time you play! There are plenty of different ways that you can switch it up depending on the game. Have you tried cranking up the difficulty, or maybe you do a run that's more focused on the story rather than combat? Do you always play as the same type of character? Randomize it! If the game permits, try a co-op campaign if you always play solo. And just like that, your old game is fresh as a daisy. And if all else fails, go full chaos mode. Yes, we are absolutely referring to playing Baldur's Gate as a wheel of cheese. Don't knock it till you try it, even if you're lactose intolerant!

These are just some ways that you can grow your gaming skills. But remember, no matter what you're playing, it's just a game. Don't forget to just have fun with it! Check out our Top 5 habits to break for more inspiration, or learn more about how we make games on our YouTube channel!
