Working as a Narrative Writer

Story time!
It’s no secret that Liquid Swords is developing a story-driven game, but we’re not quite ready to share the details of it just yet. However, we are prepared to shed some light on the process of writing said story! We followed Markus, one of our writers, around for a day to learn how to write for video games and what it’s like to work on the Liquid Swords narrative team!
The best part is that I get to tell stories for a living. And, being able to do this in an environment where teamwork is essential. Writing can sometimes be a solitary endeavor, but working in game development allows me to collaborate with many other disciplines to bring the words to life.
A common misconception is that game writing is simply about crafting a screenplay for the game’s main story. In reality, writers are involved in nearly every aspect of the game's creation. This includes side missions, character development, world-building, lore, and countless other tasks that contribute to creating a living, breathing, and memorable game world.
It's definitely the people. Everyone’s skills are valued, and besides being incredibly talented, they are also a fun bunch to hang out with. A sense of camaraderie and mutual respect is built into the very foundation of the studio's culture.
Thank you, Markus, for sharing your day with us!
